Violent traffic crimes have become an almost daily occurrence as criminals continue to bloodshed innocent New York City subway passengers going about their daily lives.

A deranged gunman with a long rap sheet pushed a 54-year-old man onto the tracks in Harlem on Monday, and the victim was hit by an oncoming train, police said.

Police said Carlton McPherson, 24, of the Bronx, was behind the unprovoked attack and fatal crash at the 125th Street and Lexington Avenue station around 7 p.m.

McPherson was charged with murder after allegedly pushing the unidentified man onto the railroad tracks. The victim was then hit by the No. 4 train that arrived at the station, causing a fatal accident as the train failed to stop on time.

According to several reports, McPherson had long-standing mental health issues and had been collared multiple times.

He was arrested in Brooklyn last October on charges of assault, intimidation and harassment, according to the New York Daily News. Citing court documents, the publication said he was released without bail when he was charged, but was re-arrested after failing to appear in court.

However, after being taken to the police, he was again released on bail and a judge issued a second warrant. He was arrested for the third time in January for a first offense, and bail was set at $2,000, which he paid, the New York Daily News reported.

Officer Jonathan Diller was killed when the suspect refused to exit his vehicle, police said, displaying a firearm and striking him in the torso. The suspect, 34-year-old Guy Rivera, has been arrested 21 times, the New York Post reported.
