Washington, D.C. police said a female suspect carjacked a vehicle occupied by an elderly woman outside a hospital on Monday, then crashed the vehicle just three miles away near the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
An elderly female passenger who was forced to ride in the car during the attack was pronounced dead after the “tragic incident,” Washington DC Deputy Police Chief Darnell Robinson said at a press conference.
At approximately 1:11 p.m., officers responded to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, located in the 100 block of Irving Street NW, for a report of a stolen vehicle.
A caller who arrived on scene reported that a white SUV had been stolen with an adult female in the passenger seat, Robinson told reporters.
“The victim reported that her elderly parent was still in the vehicle when the suspect fled,” police said of X.
Robinson said the Washington Metropolitan Police Department’s Falcon aerial support unit was immediately dispatched and officers also began searching for the vehicle.
