A Washington, D.C., police officer was shot while driving to work on Monday, and two dignitaries were taken into custody in Prince George’s County, Maryland, authorities said.
The officer was shot near 7th Avenue NW and Oglethorpe Avenue and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the Metropolitan Police Department said. The scene of the shooting was near the 4th District Police Department, located at 6001 Georgia Avenue NW.
According to police, the officer, who was driving his private vehicle in plain clothes, observed another driver driving erratically in front of him.
When the erratic driver suddenly stopped, one of them got out and fired at the police officer who remained in his car.

The injured officer was able to obtain a partial license plate number from the suspect’s vehicle and drive his own vehicle to the 4th District Police Station for help, the department said. The officer was then taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
