ITR Filing 2024-25 Deadline Extended
Great news for taxpayers! The Income Tax Agency has pushed back the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) for the year 2025-26 by one day. Initially set for July 31, 2025, it was already extended to September 15, 2025, but now it will be due on September 16, 2025.
What Did the IT Department Announce?
The Income Tax Bureau confirmed this new deadline just moments before the previous one was set to expire. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they alerted taxpayers that the due date for the ITR was delayed until September 16, 2025, to allow for necessary updates. They also noted that the e-filing portal would be down for maintenance from midnight until 2:30 AM on that date.
Issues with the E-filing Portal
As the deadline approached, the Income Tax Bureau reported that over $7 trillion in returns had already been filed. However, many users encountered technical problems on the e-filing platform, especially on the last filing day, which also coincided with the deadline for second quarter advance tax payments.
Evening updates from the bureau provided guidance for those experiencing issues accessing the portal, suggesting that typical browser settings often needed adjustment. They acknowledged that accessing the e-filing system can sometimes be challenging, especially when heavier traffic is expected.
Despite following the recommended steps from the department, some users still faced difficulties while trying to file their ITR. The agency responded to complaints by reiterating that the portal was operational, and advised users to clear their browser cache or try another browser if issues persisted. They encouraged anyone needing further assistance to reach out via email with the details of their problems.
