A Connecticut man whose body was found downstream in a river after his pickup truck became submerged may have been linked to devastating flooding that also killed two other people in the state, police said Friday.
According to Fairfield police, the body of Robert MacIsaac, 59, was discovered Thursday afternoon in the Aspetuck River in Westport.
His truck was found about a mile (1.6 km) upriver from Fairfield.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the accident may be related to the severe weather conditions experienced in the area last Sunday, however the exact cause of the vehicle leaving the road is currently under investigation,” police said in a statement.
“The official cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.”
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s storm dumped more than a foot (30 centimeters) of rain on southwestern Connecticut, turning streams and rivers into raging torrents, washing out roads and bridges and flooding homes and businesses.
Two women were swept away by floodwaters in Oxford in separate incidents and dozens of others had to be rescued.
Public records show Macisauc lived along the Aspetuck River in Weston, less than a half-mile from where police divers found his truck submerged and unoccupied at Aspetuck Falls on Thursday.
Police said the truck had been submerged in the river for several days, and the body was discovered about five hours later.
Police say McKissack was last seen around 5pm on Sunday and his truck was last seen in Wilton around 10pm the same day.
