Concerns Over Trump’s Health Raised by NAACP Health Director
Chris Pernell, who has a LinkedIn profile indicating her role as the director of the NAACP’s Center for Health Equity, has made headlines recently. She invited comments from CNN regarding President Donald Trump’s health, specifically his venous condition.
Pernell, a regular contributor on CNN programs like “Newsnight with Abby Phillip,” has reportedly been seen in churches that label Trump as the anti-Christ. This context comes from a report highlighting various aspects of her public engagements.
Graduating from Duke University with an MD in 2003, Pernell’s online profile suggests a long absence from active medical practice. Instead, she appears to have pivoted towards a career focused on health equity initiatives. Her previous positions include Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers University and Senior Clinical Advisor at Coral Health, where she focused on culturally relevant health education and resources.
During her time at the university hospital, Pernell was responsible for creating the first “equity and inclusion strategy” and pushed for mandatory training on implicit bias and structural racism. However, she left the hospital in 2022 due to an inability to secure a CEO position, describing her experience as an “abusive relationship” between racial power dynamics and black executives.
Following a diagnosis from Trump’s White House doctor regarding chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), Pernell took to CNN, indicating serious implications of the condition. She described CVI as a “progressive illness” and warned that conservative treatments could increase the risk of complications, contrasting sharply with the official details provided by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who asserted there was no evidence of severe complications.
