Cardinals Name Jacoby Brissett Starting Quarterback
For the time being, Jacoby Brissett has been named the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals.
Arizona’s head coach, Jonathan Gannon, made the announcement on Tuesday, right after the team’s victory over the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
“Jacoby will start,” Gannon stated. “Kyler [Murray] will continue to focus on his recovery. I like how the offense is performing right now; things are flowing well, and we’ll see how it goes from here.”
Shortly after Gannon’s comments, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Murray has been discussing his foot injury with multiple doctors. It’s been noted that the recovery period could extend anywhere from four to eight weeks, with potential setbacks likely.
Despite the situation, Gannon seemed fairly relaxed about Brissett taking over for the time being.
“I like how our offense is functioning,” Gannon mentioned. “I’ve weighed all the factors in my mind to make solid decisions as needed. I think we’re doing pretty well.” There’s a hint of uncertainty about who will be starting once Murray is fully healthy.
When asked if he would revert to Murray once he’s healed, Gannon simply replied with, “Seattle,” indicating the focus on the upcoming opponent while not directly addressing the question.
In the midst of all this quarterback drama, Brissett’s performance against the Cowboys was impressive. He threw for 261 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Over three starts, he’s tallied six touchdown passes against just one interception, although his record stands at 1-2, featuring narrow losses to both the Packers and Colts.
