Deep State ‘Means Anybody Who Doesn’t Do the Will of Donald Trump’

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that the term “deep state” refers to President-elect Donald Trump's choice of Kash Patel to head the FBI. He said the purpose was to reform the FBI.

Guest host Casey Hunt said, “Do you think there's a problem with politicization within the FBI, as many of the people who voted for Donald Trump have said?”

“Certainly, if you look at it historically, for example during the COINTELPRO era, the FBI was actually weaponized against Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement and the peace movement. You know, the FBI It has basically continued to be used as a political tool. There's an interesting book on this by Beverly Gage about J. Edgar Hoover that people can read.”

He added: “I mean, we've yet to see any evidence that the FBI was armed against a political party or against the Department of Justice.” Of course, the same Justice Department indicted a Democratic U.S. senator from New Jersey and a Democratic congressman from Texas. So some people seem to think it should only go in one direction. If not, it has been politicized in some way. I think that's what they mean when they talk about the politicization of the deep state. So the deep state is something that no one has ever defined. Apparently, it simply means someone who doesn't carry out Donald Trump's will. ”
