Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) said on Sunday in CNN's “Union Status” that President Donald Trump felt “deeply disrespectful” when he was told he was trying to erase black history by removing “inappropriate ideology” from federal agencies.
Host Dana Bash said, “I would like to ask about the executive order that President Trump signed this week. He was responsible for Vice President Vance removing “inappropriate ideology of the Smithsonian Association's museum.” The order specifically calls for African American History and Culture Museums.
Moore said, “Their definition of making America great again is actually challenging some of the things that make America great in the first place, and the ecosystem that we invited people all over the world to part of this big American journey means loving your country. Rather than eliminating or erasing history, it focuses on lifting it up and celebrating it, understanding that the American mosaic is big and broad and beautiful.”
“It's one of the things that's become so powerful we stand here. I remember the inauguration day. We actually started at the dock in Annapolis. Just because it's beautiful, it was one of the country's first and largest slave ports, so we started from there. For people, it's not indoctrination, it's history, and that's what we should celebrate.”
