Borderlands The film, the first since Tenacious D bandmate Jack Black publicly wished for the assassination of former President Donald Trump, has been panned, with some critics saying it may be the worst movie of the year.
One critic called Jack Black “obnoxious and unfunny.”
It will be released in cinemas on Friday, Borderlands is a film adaptation of the hit video game series of the same name, directed by horror master Eli Roth. Jack Black voices Claptrap, the cartoony android that was a staple of the video games. The ensemble cast also includes Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

As of Thursday, Borderlands The film has received near-unanimous panning from professional film critics, with an embarrassing Rotten Tomatoes score of just 3%, and is plagued by rumors of extensive reshoots and a bloated budget of over $120 million, putting it on track to be one of the biggest box office flops in recent history.
“Is Borderlands the worst movie of the year? It’s a surefire contender. So bad, in fact, that it feels like a throwback to a time when video game film adaptations were the epitome of mediocrity,” one critic wrote. London Evening Standard.
The left-leaning Daily Beast concluded that the film was “so boring, formulaic and sloppy that even an AI would determine it was plagiarized.”
“[Jack] Black’s voice acting is harsh and unfunny, made worse by Claptrap’s sudden bursts of singing and dancing. The Hollywood Reporterone critic wrote.
Indiewire concluded: “It’s arguably the worst film of Ross’s career and another scathing indictment of AAA games brought to the big screen.”
Canada’s The Globe and Mail The critic wrote that Jack Black’s character “quickly becomes tiresome.”
Last month, Jack Black found himself in a career-ending battle after his Tenacious D bandmate Kyle Gass mocked former President Donald Trump the day after he survived an assassin’s bullet. During a show in Australia, Gass yelled out to the crowd, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”
As criticism poured in from all sides, Black canceled an international tour and put the band on hiatus, but this week he was busy promoting the band. BorderlandsHe said he plans to bring Tenacious D back, though it’s unclear when that will be in the future.
As Breitbart News reported, Jack Black is one of the most well-known Hollywood celebrities at Joe Biden’s fundraisers, headlining a glitzy June fundraiser that also featured George Clooney and Julia Roberts.

At the time, none of the prominent people in attendance publicly commented on the president’s rapid cognitive decline, but by the first presidential debate shortly thereafter, the decline was too obvious to ignore.
