Colorado’s head coach, Deion Sanders, recently responded to remarks made by Christopher Neely, a longtime associate and YouTube personality known as “Uncle Neely.” In a video discussion, Neely claimed that Coach Prime was allegedly offering $50,000 to critics in an attempt to silence them. Sanders clarified this rumor by stating, “That was a joke,” when speaking with reporters.
Neely explained his comments, suggesting that without Sanders’ presence, those who criticize him wouldn’t have as much financial success. He mentioned that Sanders allegedly told some critics, “Hey man, let’s just do this. I give you $50,000 to not mention my name for a year.” However, Neely added that no one has accepted such an offer.
During a news conference, Sanders seemed to need more context about the supposed hush money situation. Neely, present at the conference, quickly explained his earlier statement. Sanders then clarified, “Oh no, no, no! I think you misinterpreted that,” indicating that he would love for some people not to mention him and wondered how effective such an arrangement would be. He added that some individuals may depend on his name for relevance.
Sanders noted that he has faced criticism throughout his career, both as an NFL player and now as a coach. He strongly emphasized, “I would never offer a man money. I don’t care what you say about me.” According to him, the comment about money was actually a humorous take on how some people thrive using someone else’s name and reputation. He expressed that while he might not agree with everything others say or do, he doesn’t dislike anyone personally.
Sanders, now in his fourth season at Colorado after a notable stint at Jackson State, has notably enhanced the program’s profile, leading the Buffaloes to nine victories and a bowl appearance in his second year. However, the team ended the 2025 season with a disappointing 3-9 record. This season started positively with two wins, but they have since lost the last five games, with the next challenge being against Kansas State on Saturday.
