Quarterback Shake-Up for Colorado Buffaloes
With Cheddur now in the NFL, head coach Deion Sanders faces a new challenge for the Colorado Buffaloes as he can no longer depend on his son as a quarterback this season.
Colorado, currently at 1-2, has decided to reinstate Kaidon Salter as quarterback after he initially lost the position to Ryan Stubb. Stubb had a rough outing in a recent game, resulting in a 36-20 loss to Houston, where he threw two interceptions.
During his first two games, Salter had a decent showing, completing 261 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.
The team also gave freshman quarterback Julian Lewis some playing time. Following a rough start against Georgia Tech, Colorado managed to secure a 31-7 victory against Delaware with all three quarterbacks seeing action.
Deion Sanders had relied on his son throughout his coaching career, but now, both coach and player must navigate this new dynamic of father and son without being on the same team.
In his last two seasons, Cheddur had been at the forefront for Colorado after his father took over coaching duties in 2023. Prior to that, Deion coached Cheddur during his high school years at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas.
As for Deion, he’s still looking for a reliable starting quarterback, but perhaps the shifting roles will allow for new opportunities on the field. After all, without Deion’s guidance, it’s uncertain how Cheddur would have ranked on the Cleveland Browns’ depth chart.
