Deion Sanders Shares Health Update and Future Plans for Colorado Football
Deion Sanders, a year after his bladder cancer diagnosis, reports that he’s feeling healthy. At a recent spring scrimmage for Colorado, he was actively involved, moving around the Folsom Field and engaging with players.
Sanders expressed, “I think anyone who walks in these doors can tell you it’s different when I’m here. Like any coach, I’m going to take a break, but I love being here,” as noted by reporters. His enthusiasm for being present at the facility is evident.
After a recent episode involving a blood clot, he reassured the media, stating, “I’m fine, I’m fine,” when questioned about his health.
This season, his primary goal is to turn around a disappointing record of 3-9 from last year. “We’re going to make things better,” he stated. He emphasized the collective effort, saying, “It’s not just the players in the locker room, but the staff. I love it. I love the hard work that goes into it every day.” He remains optimistic, even if he stops short of claiming everything is perfect: “I’m not going to say it’s 100%, but things are getting much better on the field and with our staff.”
To further improve the team, Sanders has revamped his coaching staff, bringing in offensive coordinator Brennan Marion and defensive lineman Chris Marbe for the upcoming season.
Sanders pointed out that there are positive changes underway, mentioning, “There are some good things happening. You can see the results.” He also acknowledged that while he’s open to scrimmaging against other teams this spring, there’s a noticeable shift in how much importance is placed on offseason games now. “No one values spring anymore,” he remarked, noting that some major universities have even skipped spring games entirely. He believes the focus should shift back to playing other schools for development.
Summing up his thoughts, Sanders reflected, “I wish I didn’t have to say what I thought. But I can’t be the first to say it. That’s what it takes. …At some point, you get tired of the same old, same old. You want more.”
