Colorado Buffaloes Defeat Iowa State, Fans Celebrate
On Saturday, the Colorado Buffaloes, led by coach Deion Sanders, secured a 24-17 victory against the No. 22 Iowa State in a thrilling match. This win was particularly sweet for fans, who celebrated exuberantly in Boulder’s stadium despite warnings from the public address announcer about possible fines from the Big 12 Conference due to on-field rushes.
As the game concluded, fans flooded the field. It was quite a sight. In fact, as Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter knelt to finish the game, the crowd surged towards the midfield celebrating the victory.
Sanders expressed confusion at the idea of being fined for such excitement. “Are you fined? Come on, that’s not true,” he remarked. He added, “I want to see the kids rushing down the field. I really love it.” Despite security’s efforts to guide him away, he admitted he enjoyed watching the celebration unfold.
Interestingly, the state of Colorado may face a $50,000 penalty for the on-field incident, a hefty price for what seems to be just a spontaneous show of joy. Sanders, surprised by this figure, quipped, “How about $50,000 to rush the scene? Wow. Shoot me. Sorry. Wow, 50 grand.”
Notably, this wasn’t the first time recent actions have drawn fines. Just two weeks prior, Colorado was fined $50,000 for verbal abuse directed towards members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during a game against BYU.
Contextually, Colorado State faced a $25,000 penalty last season for similar on-field celebrations following an overtime win against Baylor. It seems that crowd celebrations have significant repercussions in the world of college football, making one ponder—should joy really come with a price tag?
