Delcy Rodríguez Claims Venezuela Is 'Peaceful' One Month After Maduro's Arrest

On Tuesday night, Delcy Rodríguez, who is acting as Venezuela’s president, claimed that the nation is calm, a month after the U.S. military successfully captured socialist leader Nicolas Maduro.

“While the country is generally calm and peaceful, we’re seeing protests nationwide demanding the release of President Maduro and Congresswoman Cilia Flores,” Rodríguez stated during a broadcast on VTV, the primary television channel for the Venezuelan regime.

Her comments came as they marked the one-month anniversary of the U.S. law enforcement operation in Caracas that resulted in the arrest of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Rodríguez spoke alongside her brother, Jorge, who serves as the President of the National Assembly and Minister of the Interior, as well as Diosdado Cabello, known for leading the regime’s oppressive tactics.

Commenting on the events of January 3, Rodríguez claimed that “exactly one month ago, around 2 a.m., the Venezuelan people faced an external armed attack from a nuclear-armed state.” However, she added that Venezuela has “transformed and matured” in response to this situation, emphasizing its commitment to peace now more than ever.

“What has truly united the Venezuelan people is their rejection of such aggression. What we hear from citizens is that they believe any disagreements with the U.S. government should be addressed through diplomatic means—real political dialogue,” she added in her speech.

Rodríguez also discussed her recent telephone exchanges with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, acknowledging the longstanding diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Venezuela, emphasizing the importance of “respect for international law and interpersonal relationships” for moving forward.

At the moment, both the U.S. and Venezuela are working on reopening the U.S. embassy in Caracas, which has been closed since 2019 when Maduro severed ties with the United States. Rodríguez and her brother had a meeting this week with U.S. Ambassador Laura Dogu, who heads the Venezuelan Affairs Office.

Rodríguez elaborated further on social media about the meeting. During their discussions, Rubio laid out a three-step plan aimed at restoring democracy in Venezuela.

Dogu stated in a video, “As Secretary Rubio mentioned, we envision a friendly, stable, prosperous, and democratic Venezuela. We are prepared to collaborate closely with Venezuelans across different sectors to make this happen.”

She outlined the plan: first, stabilizing the country and restoring security; second, reviving the economy for all Venezuelans; and third, transitioning towards a friendly, stable, prosperous, and democratic Venezuela.
