Dell says 49 million customers were allegedly affected in recent data breach

Dell warned customers earlier this week about a data breach after attackers claimed to have stolen the personal information of approximately 49 million customers.

The company said the stolen information did not include email addresses, phone numbers, financial or payment information. Police also said they are working with law enforcement to investigate the incident.

One X user took to the platform after the incident and wrote: “I received an email notification from Dell of a data breach. What data was accessed? Customer information accessed: •Name •Address •Dell hardware and ordering information, service tag, product description , order date, and related warranty information.

In a forum post, the attackers wrote that they stole data from the computer company on “49 million customer and other information systems purchased from Dell between 2017 and 2024.”

The post has since been removed from the infringing forum. The report says this could mean another attacker has purchased the database containing sensitive information.
