Austin (Kusan) — Delta Air Lines is adding another special flight to its schedule to give passengers a bird’s-eye view of the April 8 solar eclipse.
Last week, the airline announced: Flights from Austin to Detroit Spend “as much time as possible” on the path to perfection. The flight sold out within 24 hours.
But on Monday, Delta Air Lines announced the addition of a second flight for “astronomy enthusiasts,” this time from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Delta Flight 1010 departs DFW at 12:30 p.m. CT and arrives in Detroit about three hours later, the same destination as the Austin flight.
A Delta Air Lines spokesperson said the flight will be operated on a larger plane than the Austin flight “to allow more customers to experience the path of a total solar eclipse.”
Airplane tickets are already on sale Delta Airlines website. As of Tuesday morning, there were still seats available in the main and Comfort+ sections.

In addition to Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines has 3 flights directly on the path of totality.
- SWA 1252 – Dallas to Pittsburgh (DAL-PIT) departing at 12:40 PM Central Time
- SWA 1721 – Austin to Indianapolis (AUS-IND) departing at 12:50 PM Central Time
- SWA 1910 – St. Louis to Houston (STL-HOU), 1:20 p.m. CT departure
The following Southwest Airlines flights may also pass through totality during their scheduled flight times:
- SWA 955 – Dallas to Chicago (DAL-MDW) departing at 12:50 PM Central Time
- SWA 506 – Milwaukee to Dallas (MKE-DAL), departing 1:05pm CT
- SWA 1734 – Houston to Indiana (HOU-IND), departing 1:35pm CT.
- SWA 1682 – Chicago to Austin (MDW-AUS), departing 1:30pm Central Time
- SWA 3108 – Nashville to Dallas (BNA-DAL), departing 1:40pm Central Time
Airlines also operate solarbration sweepstakes contest Two winners and one guest will receive round-trip tickets to SWA 1252 or SWA 1721. The prize package includes his two-night stay in an “eclipse-themed hotel room” at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh or the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis. .
