Delta eclipse flight to let passengers spend ‘as much time as possible’ in totality

Tampa, Florida (W.F.L.A.) – Delta Air Lines has created a special flight that allows passengers to spend “as much time as possible” on a complete journey around the world. Solar eclipse on April 8th.

Delta Flight 1218 will depart Austin, Texas (AUS) at 12:15 p.m. Central Time and arrive in Detroit (DTW) at 4:20 p.m. ET, the airline said.

The flight was designed to be as close to the total path as possible. The flight will be operated on an Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which the airline says has extra-large windows.

“This flight was the result of significant collaboration, from choosing an aircraft with larger windows to determining the exact departure time from Austin to the gate and in-flight experience, the close-knit team Delta is known for. It embodies our commitment to work,” said the Managing Director of Domestic Flights. Eric Beck of Network Planning said in a statement. “Thanks to our teams across the company, the idea of ​​seeing a total solar eclipse from the sky will become a reality for our customers.”

Delta Air Lines said the flight path may change due to weather or air traffic control.

Five other Delta flights on the same day will also have the opportunity to view the eclipse from above.

  • DL 2869 – LAX-SAT, 9am PT departure (A319)

In addition to Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines also operates three flights directly to the total route.

  • SWA 1252 – DAL-PIT, departing at 12:45 PM Central Time
  • SWA 1721 – AUS-IND, 12:50pm CT departure
  • SWA 1910 – STL-HOU, 1:20 p.m. CT departure

The next total solar eclipse will not pass through most of North America until 2045.
