Zach Dembo, the Democratic candidate for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District, has found his email linked to an Ashley Madison account, although his campaign insists they have no idea how this happened.
His name and email surfaced in information shared with the Kentucky Bar Association. This email was associated with a tool that identifies emails used to set up accounts on the much-discussed adult dating site. In 2015, around 37 million emails were reportedly involved in the Ashley Madison breach, which was orchestrated by a group called the “Impact Team.”
The hackers, when leaking the information, posed the rhetorical question: “Are you here?” They encouraged people to take lessons from the situation and mentioned feeling embarrassed but hopeful for recovery.
A search tool available allows individuals to check if their emails were included in the leak, and Dembo’s email was among those listed. The website designer clarified that Ashley Madison hadn’t verified users’ email addresses, suggesting that it’s quite feasible for someone to have mistakenly or deliberately signed up with another person’s email.
This seems to align with what Dembo’s team is asserting, as a spokesperson told the Daily Caller: “Zach has never used this site. He had no idea someone registered using his email.”
It’s worth noting that Dembo was not married until 2022.
Following his Navy career as a JAG officer, which ended in 2017, he joined the Trump administration as a federal prosecutor in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division until 2020. He then briefly worked in the Biden administration before deciding to run for Congress as a Democrat, citing disillusionment with the department’s turn into what he called a “personal law firm” for the president.
Amid addressing corruption issues at the Justice Department, Dembo also publicly expressed his support for the LGBTQ community, stating during Pride Month that he would continue to advocate for them throughout his campaign.
His email’s connection to a platform linked to infidelity raises eyebrows. He has previously emphasized the need for access to abortion and mentioned the desire for the country to truly support families by ensuring measures like the preservation of Roe v. Wade and affordable preschool childcare options.
