Rep. Jason Crow Discusses Campaign Strategies

During the Friday edition of “CNN News Central,” Representative Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado, remarked that Hasan Piker could potentially assist some Democratic House candidates. He mentioned, “We are building a big tent right now, and that’s going to include a lot of different folks. That’s up to individual candidates, who they want to have come in.”

Co-host John Berman probed further, asking Crow about his perspective in his role overseeing battleground states for House Democrats, specifically how much he would like Piker to campaign with Democratic candidates moving forward.

Crow replied by emphasizing the importance of local focus in battleground races. He stated, “There is this fascination and fixation on what’s happening in New York City, on the coast, outside of districts. When you are running a battleground House race, it’s about that district. The candidates I’ve recruited are concentrated on pressing issues like fixing lead in school drinking water, addressing farm irrigation needs, and ensuring aging bridges in their districts are repaired. That’s where our attention is, and that’s how we plan to win these races.”

Berman interjected, asking if there were districts where Piker’s involvement could be beneficial.

Crow responded, “Possibly, possibly. It really depends on the candidate, right? We are creating a big tent, which will include a diverse range of individuals. Ultimately, it’s up to the candidates to decide who they want to bring in. My advice to them has always been to ensure that when someone comes in, their involvement is genuinely beneficial, that it emphasizes their interests rather than overshadowing them. It’s perfectly okay to say no to surrogates if the focus doesn’t align. I’d even advise them to say no to me if I’m not going to be helpful in their district. We don’t want to become celebrity candidates. We need authentic leaders who are committed to serving and prioritizing their constituents. That’s the essence of the House of Representatives. With 435 districts and about 800,000 people in each one, it’s akin to running for mayor of your own district. It’s fundamentally local and centered on the community’s needs.”
