Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett went on a racist rant about Texas' redistricting during a census hearing Thursday.
Texas gained two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives as a result of the 2020 Census results and redrawing of the state's congressional districts. “I definitely want to get to the heart of Texas because this is funny to me,” Crockett said. “According to the Census, Texas added two seats in 2020, but we know that Texas in particular had a significant undercount for a variety of reasons. Of those 4 million people, guess how many were British? Just a guess.”

Santos said he thought there was a majority, and Crockett slammed the state's redistricting process.
“That's 180,000 of the 4 million people added, which is 95% of the population. We know that when it comes to minority populations, they tend to be underrepresented,” Crockett argued. “So, understand this, we added 4 million people who are people of color, and Texas gained two new seats. So what do you think happened? Do you think there was a new black or brown or Asian seat?”
“For some reason, when they do the math for Republicans in Texas, they end up with two new white seats,” Crockett continued. “Guess what? White Republican seats. Two new Republican seats out of 4 million people of color. So let me tell you, they're using our bodies to create inaccurate I love distributing us in ways.”
Former President Donald Trump won several heavily Hispanic counties in the 2024 election after gaining support from both Hispanic and black voters, thanks largely to the economy and immigration.
Crockett has made some outrageous statements in previous hearings. At a House Oversight Committee hearing on November 20, she claimed that Black people were “stolen” and “did not ask” to remain in the United States. Crockett also claimed during a hearing held by the House Oversight Committee in September that Republican witnesses feared hearing from “qualified Black women” like Vice President Kamala Harris.
