Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett accused many Hispanic voters of having a “slave mentality” in supporting President-elect Donald Trump.
“Here is my distillation and summary of what is going on within the Latinx community.” Crockett told Vanity Fair magazine: on friday. “I've never encountered anything like that with the Asian community. I've never encountered anything like that with the African community. I've never encountered anything like that with the Caribbean community. The only people I've come across are Hispanics. When they think of “illegals,” they probably think of people from cartels or some sort of crime book or something. That's insane. ”
“It almost reminds me of what people were talking about when they talked about a kind of 'slave mentality' and the kind of hatred that some slaves would have towards themselves,” she said. continued. “The mindset they have is almost slave-like. As immigrants, many of them get very angry when I hear how anti-immigrant they are. I'm talking about , people who are literally just here and can barely vote, and have this attitude.”
Crockett blamed some “disenfranchisement” by black men on misogyny, even though the majority of black voters still voted in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris during the campaign. he added.
“I will say that black people have historically been very loyal, which is why you still [turnout] Although there has been some peeling, these numbers are still there for black people. And that little bit of flak is coming from a black man, and I'm going to chalk that up to being misogynistic,” Crockett said.
She also disparaged white women, claiming they had “stepped back” and disappointed Harris in the same way they ousted Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“I said I don't trust white women. I'm just saying, I think we need to talk to our sisters, because they're the group that brought down Hillary Clinton. , I mean, if you go back and look at the numbers, white women failed. So in my mind, if they fail with Hillary, they don't fail with Kamala. I can't believe it,” Crockett said.
She acknowledged that some of the men she spoke to felt they “feel like the Democratic Party is eviscerating them,” but that Harris “ran the perfect campaign.” He claimed he was the “perfect candidate.”
Instead, Crockett argued, the problem with Democrats is a lack of a clear message and an “impossible standard” for themselves.
“Like, why are you all talking down to President Biden? Do you guys understand that? [Republicans are] Standing with their man? And everyone was like, “Biden had a bad debate, so get rid of him.'' Well, when Trump made a terrible argument, they never acknowledged it. He just said, “I'm not going to do it again, because I can't afford to get kicked again.” So there's something to be said for just demanding this level of perfection from people who aren't perfect, and I think Democrats need to take a hard look at themselves on this issue,” Crockett said.
