Democratic superdelegates congratulated Vice President Harris on selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate for the White House.
“Like Vice President Harris, Governor Tim Walz believes that government works to serve us — not just some, but all of us. That’s what makes him a great governor. And that makes him an even better vice president. Michelle and I couldn’t be happier for Tim and Gwen, their family, and our country,” said former governor Tim Walz. President Obama posts on Xalong with his full statement on the selection.
According to the delegate selection rules for the 2024 Democratic National Convention, superdelegates (also known as automatic delegates) will represent the Democratic Party establishment, including members of the Democratic National Committee, every Democratic member of the House and Senate, Democratic governors, every former Democratic president, vice president, Senate Majority Leader, Speaker of the House, Democratic Minority Leader, and the chair of the Democratic National Committee.

‘A huge gift’: Conservatives rejoice as Harris picks Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as running mate
“Governor Tim Walz is a proven leader who brings his Midwestern generosity and hard work to public service,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who ran alongside Harris, said in a statement Tuesday. “His unwavering commitment to improving the lives of working families and supporting our most vulnerable is why I am so excited to have him as the Democratic nominee for vice president. Tim is a friend and fellow Midwest governor, and I am proud to work with him. Vice President Kamala Harris has once again demonstrated her leadership by selecting someone our party and country can be proud of.”

News broke Tuesday morning that Harris is expected to announce Walz as her running mate, rather than other front-runners such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
“I’m proud to have asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate,” Harris posted late Tuesday morning on X. “As a Governor, coach, teacher and veteran, he’s committed to working families like my own. I’m thrilled to have him on the team. Now, let’s get to work.”
While Democratic elected officials praised the choice, Republicans also seemed to celebrate it as they prepared to take on a “far-left” candidate.

“Harris gets Bernie’s ideas and picked Walz. Thanks, Kamala! Gov. Tim Walz is a Radical Left dream come true,” Sen. Lindsey Graham posted on X.
“It’s not surprising. [Harris] “Harris has chosen Tim Walz as her running mate, who represents the same disastrous economic, open border, and soft on crime policies that Harris has imposed on our country over the past four years,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) wrote on X.
Walz’s response to Black Lives Matter riots and strict coronavirus measures come under scrutiny after Harris is selected as vice president
“Walz is an empty-headed bureaucrat who is working to turn Minnesota into Harris’ home state of California, solidifying his full support for the candidate’s radical ‘America’s Last Stand’ agenda.”

“Tim Walz is the perfect choice for Kamala Harris. He allowed BLM rioters, arsonists and looters to run wild in our state, while she encouraged donations to bail funds for the few people who were arrested,” Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton wrote on X.
Walz’s political career includes serving in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019 and being elected governor of Minnesota in 2018 and for re-election in 2022.
