An increasing number of Republicans are supporting the impeachment of a federal judge in Atlanta, Georgia, amid allegations of inappropriate conduct in his chambers.
The focus is on U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross, who was nominated in 2014 by former President Barack Obama, as reported by Fox News.
Representatives Andrew Clyde and Clay Fuller, both from Georgia, have introduced separate resolutions aimed at impeaching the judge following an internal investigation into alleged judicial misconduct.
“According to Mr. Fuller, Judge Ross made false statements to senior judicial officials, potentially obstructing the inquiry and impacting court operations. Mr. Fuller emphasized that these actions reflect serious breaches of ethical standards expected from federal judges,” the report detailed.
As per Breitbart News, Judge Ross recently adjusted an apology directed at former clerks who claimed they could hear her and a companion during private moments. “I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable, and there’s simply no justification,” Ross stated.
Clyde has filed a multi-point impeachment complaint with support from several co-sponsors, including Rep. Lauren Boebert, Rep. Sheri Biggs, Rep. Buddy Carter, Rep. John Carter, Rep. Paul Gosar, Rep. Andy Harris, and Rep. Andy Ogles.
Additionally, Sen. Thom Tillis from North Carolina expressed his support for the impeachment initiative, stating, “If the accusations are substantiated, she should be removed from her position.”
The police officer reportedly involved in the situation with Ross has been identified as Atlanta Police Department Deputy Chief Kelly Collier, who was promoted to major in 2019 and currently serves as the principal and commander at the Atlanta Police Academy.
According to the information included in the article, federal judges are granted lifetime appointments and can only be dismissed through congressional impeachment.
Judge Fuller remarked, “The American public deserves a judicial system that upholds the utmost standards of integrity and accountability. Judge Ross should not hold a position on the federal bench.”
