Demi Moore receives criticism on social media for encouraging Hollywood to collaborate with AI

Demi Moore recently faced criticism for her assertion that Hollywood has essentially lost its battle against artificial intelligence. This remark triggered an immediate backlash, especially after she urged the industry to stop resisting AI and instead explore ways to collaborate with it.

At the Cannes Film Festival, she commented, “Conflict creates more conflict. With AI now present, opposing it feels like a fight we’re destined to lose. I think discovering cooperative avenues with AI could be a more fruitful direction.” Yet, her sentiments raised eyebrows, with many arguing that she was essentially conceding the future of filmmaking to big tech interests.

Critics took to social media, some labeling her comments as a form of “fascist propaganda,” especially considering her past roles in films that critique the exploitation of women in Hollywood. One individual remarked on the irony of her statements, given her association with creators like director Park Chan-wook.

Another critic pointed out how advocates for AI often fail to justify it’s positive aspects, framing it instead as an unavoidable reality. One comment highlighted that some seem to view AI merely as something to accept rather than debate its possible downsides.

Interestingly, despite the backlash, there were supporters of Moore’s views, asserting that adaptation to AI is crucial for the industry’s survival. “AI represents cinema’s future. Those who resist will risk being left behind,” was a common sentiment among her defenders.

In her further remarks, Moore stressed that while AI has potential, it can never replicate the essence of true art, which she believes stems from the human soul. She also addressed concerns over self-censorship and political expression within the entertainment sphere. Asked about the risk her opinions might pose to her career, she expressed hope that it wouldn’t be detrimental. After all, she stated, “Art is fundamentally about expression. Self-censorship stifles creativity and hinders the journey to discover truth.”
