Democracy Can’t Continue if SCOTUS Rules Trump Has Immunity

CNN commentator Adam Kinzinger said Tuesday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that American democracy will end if the Supreme Court rules in favor of President Donald Trump’s immunity claim. He said it would be.

“It is important to point out that there are a number of problems with this ruling,” Cooper said.

Kinzinger said, “Oh, there’s a lot at stake. I mean, obviously in my opinion, not just in terms of what this election means, but if the Supreme Court decides what we expect… And if you recant what you said that you don’t have absolute immunity, then potentially this case will proceed.”

He added, “If they come back and say there’s such a thing as unlimited immunity, I don’t see how the presidency, and frankly, democracy, can survive.” If you have a president, you can literally get away with doing anything as long as that person has the title president before their name. This is a very important thing for the Supreme Court to address. Maybe that’s why they decided to take this up after the Court of Appeals, but they’ll have to make a decision. Hopefully it’ll be 9-0, maybe 8-1. But Trump. It will be a huge defeat for him, I think.”
