Democrats Propose Impeachment Articles Against Trump
Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced impeachment articles against President Donald Trump. This follows a social media post in which he made threats toward Iran.
Representative John Larson from Connecticut pointed to one particular post where Trump warned that Iranian civilization could face destruction if Iran did not meet his demands, especially after ongoing attacks from the U.S. and Israel.
“They have an obligation to put patriotism above politics,” Larson stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
According to Larson, “Donald Trump has ignored every requirement for removal from office, and the situation is getting worse. His illegal war in Iran is not just causing rising costs for American families; it’s costing American lives.” He referenced a statement made on Tuesday.
Larson critiqued Trump’s recent threats, labeling them as “blasphemous” and “profane” while noting they could lead to potential war crimes that jeopardize U.S. security.
While Larson has filed for impeachment, he urged the Trump administration to consider a more immediate solution by invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.
“Cabinet members and people close to the president can act immediately. They must prioritize national interest over political affiliations,” he reiterated, suggesting that Trump is unfit for the presidency.
Calls for the president’s removal have surfaced from various politicians, but these efforts might have been somewhat mitigated by a recently announced ceasefire, which came just before the deadline Trump had set for Iran.
Notable figures who have pushed for the president’s removal include former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Chris Murphy, and Representative Yasmin Ansari.
This isn’t the first time Trump has faced impeachment; he has been impeached twice during his initial term in office.
Some lawmakers, including Republican Rep. Mike Lawler from New York, defended Trump’s stance on the threats, emphasizing that the president is focusing on strategic action against Iranian infrastructure, not targeting civilians.
