Democratic donor Whitney Tilson criticized President Joe Biden for “misleading” voters about his mental state after his match against former President Donald Trump in Thursday’s presidential debate.
Tilson, a Wall Street investor who donated to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election, New York Post He said he felt “misled” about Biden’s health and suggested an alternative candidate.
“I feel like I’ve been lied to,” Tilson told the outlet. “Biden and the people around him have lied to the American people.”
During the presidential debate, Biden appeared disoriented and frozen, spoke hoarsely and struggled to follow through on his prepared closing statements.
In the aftermath of the presidential debate, members of the media, Democratic Party officials, donors and voters have proposed replacing Biden and questioned whether he can serve another term as president.
Many Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), and Rep. James Clyburn (D-South Carolina), have continued to support Biden after his debate performance. On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) became the first sitting Democrat to call on Biden to drop out of the presidential race.
Tilson went on to describe Trump’s claim that the 2016 election against Biden was “rigged” as similar to “Trump’s Big Lie.” According to the outlet, Tilson called similar claims by Democrats a “big lie.”
“Kamala [Harris] “If she throws herself into the race, Biden can’t nominate her,” Tilson told the outlet. “If she emerges as a front-runner, I will support her.”
According to the outlet, Tilson also named Sen. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo as potential presidential candidates, as well as Gov. Wes Moore (D-Maryland) and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Michigan) as potential presidential candidates.
A recent CBS News/YouGov poll found that 72% of registered voters feel Biden does not have the “mental” or “cognitive health” to serve as president, while 27% of registered voters feel Biden has the “mental” and “cognitive health” to serve as president.
