Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries After Second Trump Assassination Attempt: ‘We Must Stop’ MAGA Republicans

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York) appeared on X on Sunday to denounce so-called “radical MAGA Republicans,” adding that “we have to stop them.” Notably, Jeffries made the remarks just an hour after former President Donald Trump survived a second assassination attempt.

“Radical MAGA Republicans are the party that pushes for nationwide abortion bans and Trump's Project 2025,” Jeffries said in a post on X on Sunday, adding that “they must be stopped.”

The Democratic House Minority Leader expressed those sentiments an hour after Trump's campaign said the president was safe after a mass shooting broke out nearby.

“President Trump heard gunfire nearby but is safe,” Trump campaign communications director Steven Chang said in a statement. “No further details are available at this time.”

Gunshots Reportedly Trump was fired on Sunday while playing golf at Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Donald Trump Jr. later announced, citing law enforcement officials, that a suspect had been arrested and that an AK-47 rifle had been found in some bushes at Trump National.

“Hey guys, here we go again! Shots were fired at the Trump Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida,” Trump Jr. said. “According to local police, an AK-47 was found in the bushes. The Trump campaign has released a statement confirming that former President Trump is safe.”

“The suspect has reportedly been arrested,” Trump Jr. added.

Shortly after, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed that it was currently investigating what appeared to be a second assassination attempt on President Trump.

“FBI agents are responding to West Palm Beach, Florida, investigating what appears to be an assassination attempt on former President Trump,” the FBI said in a statement.

Notably, the first assassination attempt on the 45th President occurred on July 13 while he was speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

President Trump was shot in the ear but narrowly escaped death because he turned his head to look at a graph that was being displayed at the moment attempted assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks fired his shot.

However, the assassination attempt left former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore dead and two other rally attendees, David Duch and James Copenhaver, seriously injured.

The Secret Service has faced fierce backlash following the July 13 assassination attempt, with director Kimberly Cheatle resigning 10 days after a tough congressional hearing in which she said she was unable or unwilling to answer many key questions from lawmakers about the agency's failure to protect President Trump.
