Democrat Leaders Refuse to Escort President Trump into the Chamber

Democrats refused to escort President Donald Trump inside the house ahead of the Congressional joint session in the form of protest.

The Democratic leader has completely refused to join the escort committee despite being asked by speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to do so.

A spokesman for Democrat minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-ny), essentially confirmed that this was a sign of protest, telling CNN's Manu Raju that it “talked about itself.”

“Congressional Democrats appointed to the Escort Committee are boycotting President Trump's speech,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said. “That's pathetic. And it's embarrassing.”

“They should show some dignity and get over the bitterness of their losses,” he added.

“Dem in Congress, who boycotted the Escort Committee for President Trump's speech, should be ashamed of himself,” the Senate Republican said. “They would rather throw tantrums than face the reality that President Trump has won.”

And in fact, tantrums have been seen earlier in Trump's speeches as some Democrats from the Chamber of Commerce continued to protest loudly. This led Johnson to call out the sergeant to remove the instigator, Rep. Al Green (D-TX).
