Former Orange County Councilman Katie Porter has announced that she will run for the 2026 California gubernatorial election as current California Governor Gavin Newsom is a limited time offer.

Monday, Porter I posted a video to X – announced her execution For the governor. Newsom terminology is expected to end on January 4ththAccording to 2027 Ballotpedia.
“What California needs right now is a little hope and a lot of grit. That's why I'm running for governor,” Porter posted along with the campaign video.
In her video, Porter vows to take on the “dangerous leader” of the Trump administration if elected governor, and to provide a detailed description of a brief video clip of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Mike Johnson, Mitch McConnell and JD Vance.
Porter further says it's time for “new ideas” on issues like economy, climate, food costs, housing, healthcare and “fundamental rights.” It presents a quick video clip of a transgender woman, hinting that transgender rights are “at risk.”
“I first ran to hold Trump accountable… stop him and stop hurting Californians,” she says in the point after the approval ad, reflecting feelings previously expressed by other Democrats, including New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Porter also says he is committed to “abortion rights, LGBTQ rights, and immigration rights.” The video states, “Humans are not illegal!!! Immigrants are our neighbors!!”
Additionally, Porter said he is ready to play against “big oil, big banks, or big pharmaceutical companies screw people in.”
Porter was led by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and their relationship was so important that one of Porter's children was named after Warren.

Rumors have also emerged about the consideration of running for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Porter said in December that Harris' entry likely has a “field clearing effect,” hinting that the majority of Californians will automatically choose Harris.
“She didn't run away with Kamala,” Porter's adviser said. CNN“And none of the others are.”
