California Democrat Dave Min fled the U.S. Capitol steps on Tuesday evening amid backlash from reports about his misleading tweets that suggested the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination was connected to the “MAGA” movement.
On Friday, Min appeared to endorse a baseless conspiracy theory, claiming that Kirk was murdered by someone “identified as MAGA.” This came to light just a day after additional evidence surfaced, linking the 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, to left-wing extremism. Despite this exposure, Min has yet to delete his original post.
In a tweet, which was later revealed, Min expressed confidence that political figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk would redirect their focus to curbing right-wing violence following the identification of the suspect.
When approached by the Daily Caller News Foundation about his post, Min declined to discuss the matter, hurriedly heading to his office with staff present and wearing earbuds.
No response was received from Min by the publication deadline.
Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox commented in an interview that Robinson is deeply influenced by leftist ideology. This statement followed the formal filing of charges against Robinson, which included new evidence alleging his radical beliefs.
Text messages between Robinson and his transgender partner suggested he justified the killing based on Kirk’s political stance. “I had enough of his hatred,” he reportedly wrote. “Some hatred cannot be negotiated.”
Robinson also confessed to his parents about the murder, suggesting that there was “too much evil” and hatred associated with Kirk.
The alleged killer seems to have reacted against his father’s support for Trump, labeling his partner as “a rather stubborn MAGA.” His mother noted that Robinson’s political views had shifted left in recent times.
Reports indicate that Robinson inscribed a message on the bullet casing, epitomizing his disdain with the words, “Hey fascist! Catch!”
The National Republican Congressional Committee has urged Min to apologize for his misleading comments and conspiracy theories. Min represents a mixed district in California, where Republicans are hoping to gain traction in upcoming elections.
“Dave Min is a reckless, dishonorable, and pathetic excuse for a lawmaker,” NRCC spokesman Christian Martinez stated.
