Democrat Representative Explains Why ICE Is Called a ‘Terrorist Force’

Pramila Jayapal Defends ICE Agents While Criticizing Enforcement Tactics

During a CNN appearance on Wednesday, Washington Democrat Pramila Jayapal expressed her defense of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who have been labeled by some as “terrorist forces.” She called on the White House to issue an apology regarding the agency’s enforcement practices.

Jayapal’s remarks came after a round table discussion in Spokane. Responding to inquiries from CNN co-host Brianna Keilar about her previous statements, she referenced a post where White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson noted a significant rise—500%—in assaults on ICE personnel.

“It’s confusing and outrageous,” Jayapal said. “These agents—if that’s what they are—are not even wearing uniforms; they’re in regular clothes. I never thought I’d witness this in America.” She continued, voicing that the administration should apologize to legal permanent residents and others who have lived in the country for years without committing crimes, yet have been forcibly removed by masked agents.

She deemed these operations “illegal and absolutely terrifying,” particularly for small businesses and farmers who feel the impact. Jayapal’s concerns echo in a broader context, noting how the community fears the repercussions of such enforcement tactics.

In contrast, President Donald Trump has implemented various executive orders aimed at addressing illegal immigration and enhancing border security, including designating certain gangs and cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Protests against ICE have emerged since these enforcement actions, notably starting in Los Angeles and spreading to other cities. Videos show instances in Seattle where rioters attempted to set fire to trash cans and an American flag, creating a chaotic scene.

Reflecting on her Spokane discussion, Jayapal mentioned that local business owners, including farmers, are genuinely afraid, pointing out that sales have suffered as people hesitate to go out. “This isn’t what I expected to see in the U.S.,” she lamented, reiterating that the White House owes the American public an apology for the current situation.

The Department of Homeland Security has yet to respond to inquiries regarding these remarks.
