Democrat representative labels ICE officers as 'Nazi Gestapo thugs' following arrest of MS-13 member

After a recent incident involving ice surgery in Providence, Rhode Island, some progressives have stirred up a bit of a storm by labeling ice agents as “Nazi Gestapo thugs.” This came amidst the arrest of known MS-13 gang members.

State Senator Enrique Sanchez voiced his frustration in a social media post, stating, “The Nazi Gestapo ice thugs invited another Providence neighbor this morning, this time at Alverson St. The ice thugs have also damaged residents’ cars. They seem to think they’re above the law. I strongly condemn this act of fear and want to take action tomorrow. I am just tired of this nonsense.”

In this particular case, Ivan Rene Mendoza Meza, a 27-year-old from Honduras, was arrested. He was in the U.S. illegally and had ties to the violent MS-13 gang.

According to sources, Mendoza attempted to flee during the surgery and collided with an ice vehicle, ultimately ending up in an apartment where he surrendered to the ice agents.

Mendoza’s arrest stirred discussions, particularly as he appeared happy in his booking photos, which is, well, somewhat surprising, considering his criminal record that includes suspected fentanyl trafficking. In fact, ice agents had previously tried to detain him in August 2023. However, the Rhode Island District Court let him go without notifying ICE, which led to this latest apprehension.

James Covington, a spokesman for ice Boston, noted that Mendoza was deeply involved with gang-related activities, asserting he committed crimes on behalf of MS-13, which is a bit alarming.

Interestingly, Sanchez has been vocal against immigration enforcement, expressing his disdain for ice agents and their tactics. He even had a recent outburst on social media, following a tragic incident involving an agent’s death during an enforcement operation.

As a bit of background, Mendoza first entered the U.S. illegally back in May 2019 but quickly returned to Mexico. Officials believe he re-entered later but haven’t pinned down the timeline.

Through all of this, it’s clear that the dialogue surrounding immigration enforcement and its implications remains heated and divisive, which probably won’t change anytime soon.
