As fires wreak havoc in California, Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., claimed in a post on X that the catastrophe is “what a climate emergency looks like.”
Another tweet attacked President-elect Trump, claiming that the president-elect has been bought by the oil industry.
“Trump was bought by Big Oil for $1 billion in exchange for destroying the IRA and the Green New Deal. We know what's going to happen: more fires, more climate disasters, more deaths. “The Los Angeles fires are a harbinger of atrocities to come,” Markey declared in a post on X.
Markey, who claims there is a “climate crisis”, also warns about the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI).
He said the increased use of AI could lead to “doubling of data center power demand by 2026,” “increased carbon emissions,” “water shortages,” and “e-waste.” He suggested that there was.
“We're already facing a climate crisis. We can't allow AI to make it worse,” Markey warned.
President Trump is scheduled to take office on January 20th.
“In his first term, President Trump promoted conservation and environmental stewardship while fostering economic growth for families across the country,” incoming White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said in a statement.
“America's energy policy under President Trump will create affordable and reliable energy for consumers, stable, high-wage jobs for small businesses, and at the same time lower U.S. carbon emissions than in the past 25 years. In his second term, President Trump will once again bring clean air and water to American homes and make America prosperous again.
