Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman recently criticized his own party for its reluctance to denounce the violent riots occurring in Los Angeles, expressing his thoughts in a straightforward post on X that attracted over seven million views.
In his post, Fetterman shared an image of several burning cars and an unidentified individual holding a Mexican flag while standing atop one of the damaged vehicles.
“I unapologetically stand for free speech, peaceful demonstrations, and immigration – but this is not that. This is anarchy and true chaos. My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement,” he stated.
His comments referenced the ongoing riots that began on a Saturday and persisted into the following week. Rioters were observed setting vehicles ablaze, looting shops, and throwing rocks at police cars. In response, President Trump decided to federalize the National Guard and is also weighing the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act to send military forces to address the unrest.
After Fetterman’s statement, Elon Musk showed his support by responding with an American flag emoji.
Taylor Budowich, the Deputy White House chief of staff, also reacted, saying, “This is a wake-up call for many Democrats: there is no room for you in the party of @GavinNewsom and @KamalaHarris. Their self-obsessed pursuits of power are blind to you and your concerns. They defend chaos, reject biology, and are unbothered by the invasion of our nation.”
Even with Fetterman urging Democrats to denounce the violence and destruction, left-leaning social media users quickly countered. One criticized the riots, describing them as a “disturbance smaller than the last Lakers’ victory parade.”
“Resign. Your mental health issues concern us all and we support you in your fight. But this is not that. This is you being manipulated into thinking a disturbance smaller than the last Lakers’ victory parade was ‘anarchy.’ Resign and focus on regaining yourself,” liberal commentator Keith Olbermann remarked.
Another user added, “Your party condemned those actions multiple times over the past several days. You could spend your time accomplishing something, anything, instead of spending your time desperately trying to find ways to criticize your party.”
I guess it’s a reminder of just how complex things can get in politics, right?
