Democrat wins House race to retain seat in California’s 21st district

Longtime Congressman Jim Costa (D-Calif.) won reelection in California's 21st Congressional District after more than a week of vote counting, according to the Associated Press.

He successfully defended his seat against Republican challenger Michael Maher.

The race is one of the last pending House races of the 2024 cycle, and was called more than a week after Election Day.

Costa has represented the district, which includes the San Joaquin Valley, since 2005, but Democratic politics in California spans decades.
