Rep. Jasmine Crockett went on a rant about “white men” while debating a bill that would remove DEI policies from the federal government.
“You consistently said the word 'oppression' over and over again, and every time you said it it was like hearing nails on a chalkboard. Because you said 'oppression'… Because you don't seem to understand the definition.'' Please refer to Google. Oppression is long-term cruel or unjust treatment or control. ” she said. “So, as I sit here as a Black woman who practiced civil rights, I wish my colleagues would help you understand the same Black history that you on the aisle are trying to remove from your classroom. Let me tell you why. Then you can misuse words like 'oppression.'

Crockett argued that white men in the United States did not face oppression because they were not forced off their land or sent to foreign countries as slaves.
“There was no oppression of white people in this country. Tell me which white people were dragged from their homes. Which of them were dragged all the way across the ocean and told, 'This is what you're going to do.' Please tell me, “Go to work. We steal your wife. We rape your wife. “That didn't happen, that's oppression,'' Crockett said. “We don't want to come here. We're not like the immigrants you usually encounter. We didn't run away from our homes. We were stolen. So, yeah. And we're offended that we want to sit here and act like… and be on this side of the aisle. Don't miss the white men telling us, people of color on this side of the aisle, that you are the oppressed, all of you. That's not the definition of oppression. Tell me about the long-term cruel or unjust treatment you suffered.”

Crockett pointed out that white men only make up 30% of the country's population but hold more than 60% of elected offices.
“I can't even tell you how many white men have served in this chamber. But what I can tell you is that I'm only the 55th Black woman to serve. “When you want to pretend like, 'It was so long ago, it wasn't,'” she said. “Again, I’m only 55th.”

She concluded her remarks by asserting that “companies with more diverse workforces are more likely to outperform their competitors.”
“Diversity works and until we are shown the data that it doesn’t, we must listen to the experts, step outside our own emotions, and realize that racism is real in this country.” I think we need to go back to a country that re-realizes that we are not going to solve the problems that we face all the time, and that we are going to be more perfect. It will bring you the real bond that you seek when you are looking for a bond,” she said.
