Democratic lawmaker suggests ‘slave mentality’ behind Hispanic Trump voters

Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett accused many Hispanic voters of having a “slave mentality” in supporting President-elect Donald Trump.

“Here is my distillation and summary of what is going on within the Latinx community.” Crockett told Vanity Fair magazine: on friday. “I've never encountered anything like that in the Asian community. I've never encountered anything like that in the African community. I've never encountered anything like that in the Caribbean community. The only people I've encountered like that are Hispanic people, and when they think of “illegals,” they're probably talking about cartels or people from crime books or something like that. I'm thinking. That's insane. ”

“It almost reminds me of what people were talking about when they talked about a kind of 'slave mentality' and the kind of hatred that some slaves would have towards themselves,” she said. continued. “The mentality they have is almost slave-like. As immigrants, many of them, to hear how anti-immigrant they are, it's insane to me. What I'm talking about is , people who are literally just here and can barely vote.”

Crockett blamed some “disenfranchisement” by black men on misogyny, even though the majority of black voters still voted in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris during the campaign. he added.

“I will say that black people have historically been very loyal. That's why you still see them today.” [turnout] Although there has been some peeling, these numbers are still there for black people. And that little bit of flak is coming from a black man, and I'm going to call that out as misogynistic,” Crockett said.

She also disparaged white women, claiming they had “stepped back” and disappointed Harris in the same way they ousted Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“I said I don't trust white women. I'm just saying to you, I think you need to talk to your sisters, because they brought down Hillary Clinton. I mean, when you go, if you look at the numbers, it was the white women who let her down, so in my mind, even though they let Hillary down. , I can't believe they won't let Kamara down,” Crockett said.

She acknowledged that some of the men she spoke to felt they “feel like the Democratic Party is eviscerating them,” but that Harris “ran the perfect campaign.” He claimed he was the “perfect candidate.”

Instead, Crockett argued that the problem with Democrats is a lack of a clear message and an “impossible standard” for themselves.

“Why are you all criticizing President Biden? Do you understand? [Republicans are] Standing with their man? And everyone was like, “Biden had a bad debate, so get rid of him.'' Well, when Trump made a terrible argument, they never acknowledged it. He just said, “I'm not going to do it again. I can't afford to get kicked again.” So there's something to be said for just demanding this level of perfection from people who aren't perfect, and I think Democrats need to take a hard look at themselves on this issue,” Crockett said.
