Democratic Legislative Candidate Shelly Headen: 'Visiting Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany...This is where Trump supporters should be'

Controversial Comments from North Carolina Legislative Candidate

North Carolina legislative candidate Shelly Headen, a Democrat, shared a Facebook story during her vacation that featured her in front of ovens at the Dachau concentration camp memorial in Germany. In her post, she remarked, “Visiting Dauchau [sic] Concentration Camp in Germany… This is where Trump supporters belong.”

Reports indicate that Headen was at Dachau, a site where an estimated 41,500 individuals lost their lives. In images from social media, she appears smiling near what seem to be crematorium ovens—devices used by the Nazi regime for incinerating the bodies of those who died or were murdered at the camp.

Headen is contending against incumbent Republican state Representative John Blust in a suburban district of Guilford County. On her Facebook profile, she identifies herself as a CPA and a business owner, claiming she is “running to restore human decency.” However, this statement seems to hold a degree of irony given her comments suggesting political opponents belong in concentration camps, especially when juxtaposed with the context of her cheerful pose at a Holocaust memorial.

During the Holocaust, six million Jews were systematically killed.

Headen’s rhetoric reflects a trend that appears to be growing among some Democratic candidates and left-wing activists nationwide. Earlier this year, a man attempted to breach security with intentions to harm President Trump at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Furthermore, Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed made a statement in reaction to an attack on a Jewish synagogue, declaring, “Hurt people hurt people.”

Her comments indicating a connection between Trump supporters and violence are not isolated. In another Facebook post, Headen seemingly advocates for an unspecified attack on the United States, suggesting “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil… preferably Alabama, Louisiana… where the stupid people are.”

Additionally, Headen has faced allegations of domestic violence, where her husband is named as the “potential victim.” Incident reports from 2024 indicate that she was the suspect in several domestic incidents.

On September 3, Headen commented on the domestic violence claims, stating, “In 2024, during a high-stress time in my marriage, my husband and I had a couple of arguments that escalated. During one argument, my husband grabbed me, and I fell backward and hit my head. In my fear and confusion, I sought support and protection from those I trusted—I called 911.” However, police reports suggest otherwise, documenting two visits from law enforcement, both of which list Headen as the suspect and her husband as the potential victim.

Inquiries have been made to Headen regarding her controversial Facebook posts and the domestic violence allegations, but her campaign had not offered comments by the time of this report.
