Manhunt Underway After Minnesota Lawmaker’s Murder
A manhunt is currently in progress following the fatal shooting of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, along with serious injuries sustained by another senator and his wife, in incidents believed to be targeted attacks.
During a press briefing on Saturday, Governor Tim Walz (D-Minn.) confirmed that Democrat State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed in what appears to be a politically motivated act of violence.
Meanwhile, State Senator John Hoffman (D-Minn.) and his wife, Yvette, were shot multiple times but have recently come out of surgery. Walz expressed cautious optimism regarding their recovery.
“This was an act of targeted political violence,” Walz stated.
Law enforcement officers responded around 2:00 a.m. after receiving reports that Senator Hoffman and his wife had been shot. They were eventually directed to check on Hortman and her family, discovering police presence at her home. Upon their arrival, a man believed to be an officer opened fire on the police.
After an exchange of gunfire, the suspect retreated into the house. The search for him continues.
President Donald Trump issued a statement saying he has been informed about the “terrible shooting” in Minnesota, describing it as a “targeted attack against state lawmakers.”
“I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers,” Trump remarked.
He noted that Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI are investigating and pledged that anyone involved will face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. “Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!” he added.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi affirmed that the violence appears to be targeted. She stated, “I am closely monitoring developments in Minnesota after what appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers.”
“The FBI is on the ground investigating this case alongside state and local partners. This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Bondi continued.
