Vandalism at Senator Collins’ Office

Republican Senator Susan Collins expressed determination not to be “intimidated” following the vandalism of one of her constituent offices in Maine on Monday. The office was defaced with the phrase “Trump Whore” sprayed on its entry doors. The incident, which was confirmed by her office, was shared on social media by Maine state Senator Matt Harrington, who serves as the assistant Republican leader. The Biddeford police are currently investigating the matter, as confirmed by Fox News Digital.

“Vandalism is unacceptable,” stated Katie Brown, Collins’ Chief of Staff. “Senator Collins and her staff will not be intimidated. Our Biddeford constituent service office remains open, and we will continue serving the people of Maine.”

Political Context

Collins is seeking re-election for a sixth term in a Senate race against Democratic challenger Troy Jackson, a former Maine Senate president. This race is critical for Democrats, who are aiming to regain the Senate majority in the upcoming midterm elections.

Interestingly, Jackson has not commented on the vandalism despite repeated inquiries from Fox News Digital.

Austin Theriault, a former Maine state representative and the 2024 Republican nominee for Congress, remarked that there should be no hesitation in condemning such actions, regardless of political affiliation. “I’m very confident that Sen. Collins herself would very quickly condemn this if the shoe was on the other foot,” he added, hinting at a potential “identity problem” within Maine’s Democrats, considering Jackson’s silence.

Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker commented on the incident as well, stating it exemplifies the “radical left’s aggression and inability to have civil discourse.” She hopes for a swift prosecution, emphasizing that the political atmosphere should not accept such behavior.

It’s worth noting that Collins’ office is located just blocks from where a fatal shooting involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents occurred in July. Following that incident, there were protests at Collins’ office, demonstrating against her support for ICE funding.

The senator, known as a moderate Republican, has occasionally disagreed with President Trump, receiving bipartisan attention throughout her campaign. This summer, she celebrated a significant milestone by casting her 10,000th consecutive Senate vote. However, she has faced scrutiny from both sides; Democrats criticize her for her support of her 2018 vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was part of the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade.
