Democratic Socialists of America aim to fundamentally transform the federal government in a reported platform update

Democratic Socialists Plan Major Overhaul of Federal Government

A faction within the Democratic Party, known for its socialist stance, appears to have ambitions to dramatically change the structure of the U.S. federal government.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have shown support for notable figures like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, members of the Congressional “Squad,” and New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani.

This group, once viewed as fringe, has captured attention recently by backing candidates who have succeeded against more centrist Democrats.

Currently, DSA is in the process of updating its platform, which may include proposals to abolish the U.S. Senate and the Department of Defense. This information was shared in a report by a news outlet.

Moreover, the revised platform would propose that Congress choose new executives and judicial members who would operate under congressional authority.

Another significant aspect of the platform includes offering complete amnesty to all undocumented immigrants in the country. The previous DSA stance called for halting deportations, allowing unrestricted movement between nations, and granting voting rights to non-citizens.

In recent elections, DSA-endorsed candidates have notably won against established Democratic figures in New York City and various locations.

Daria Lisa Avila Chevalier is campaigning for New York’s 13th Congressional District, advocating for the elimination of borders, police, and prisons, and has expressed strong criticism of Democratic leadership, specifically targeting Kamala Harris on social media.

Claire Valdez recently secured the Democratic primary in New York’s 7th Congressional District with a platform focusing on demilitarizing borders, providing amnesty, and enhancing the Green New Deal to combat climate change.

In Colorado’s 1st Congressional District, Melat Quiros is campaigning against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and has shared anti-Israel views.

Despite these recent achievements for DSA, centrist Democrats are regrouping to oppose the further rise of socialist influences within the party.

Subsequently, in a surprising move, DSA has retracted its endorsement of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, citing her insufficiently strong stance against Israel as the reason.
