Democratic take to social media, react to Vice Presidential debate

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz faced off in the vice presidential debate in New York City on Tuesday, with both parties announcing their support for the candidates on social media. And Democrats fact-checked Vance on every point.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg claimed that Walz was “stating facts” but that Vance was “not aware” that U.S. energy production was increasing.

“It's amazing that J.D. Vance pretends not to know that U.S. energy production is increasing and that U.S. manufacturing is increasing dramatically now, much more than it was under the Trump administration. It should be done. I'm glad Tim Walz is setting the record straight here,” Buttigieg wrote to X.

David Plouffe, campaign manager and senior adviser to President Barack Obama and Kamala Harris, called out Vance and said Walz had the strongest victory on immigration.

“Governor Walz beats J.D. Vance in immigrant engagement with undecided voters in battleground states in the West, reminding these voters that Donald Trump only built 2 percent of his wall, Mexico debated “I reminded him that he didn't pay a dime at the meeting,” Plouffe wrote.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also confirmed Vance's facts and said American families will pay a high price if he and Donald Trump are elected.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Vance had made “false” claims about the Middle East.

“Mr. Vance says Mr. Trump has 'restored deterrence' in the Middle East, which is completely false. Iran and its proxies had not fired on U.S. forces until Mr. Trump became president. ” Murphy wrote.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer praised Walz for “standing up for American workers.”

“Michigan remembers what happened under Donald Trump. Hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost in every industry, including manufacturing. The Biden-Harris administration will bring jobs back to Michigan. It was essential.”

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) said Trump and Vance's “Project 2025 agenda would raise costs for Arizona families while giving big corporations more tax cuts and more power.” insisted.

“@KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz will lower costs and build an economy that works for all Americans.”

Project 2025 refers to a series of conservative policy proposals by the Heritage Foundation that have become fodder for right-wing “boogeyman”-style Democratic talking points and Trump critics.

Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker wrote in X that “housing and homeownership will be most accessible under a Harris-Waltz administration.”

“They want to provide the next generation of homeowners with the support they need to achieve the American Dream.”

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod said Vance “does well” in debates but “like a bat out of hell” when asked “direct questions about the 2020 election.” I wrote to X that I had run away.

Brian Fallon, a former aide to Hillary Clinton, also criticized Vance's responses to questions about the 2020 election.

“The biggest moment of the debate comes at the end, when Mr. Vance refuses to say Mr. Trump lost the 2020 election. 'Damn no answer,' says Mr. Walz.” I wrote to X.
