Democrats change their stance on Swalwell support after being charged with attacking victims.

Pelosi viewed as being on the unfavorable side of the congressional stock trading discussion.

California Democrats are voicing strong disapproval following serious allegations against Eric Swalwell, a candidate for governor. Reports surfaced, claiming he sexually assaulted a former staff member and engaged in harassment with others. Notable figures such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Senators Adam Schiff and Swalwell have publicly distanced themselves from him.

One of the alleged victims broke her silence, detailing accusations where Swalwell supposedly took advantage of her while intoxicated. She described several troubling incidents, including being pressured to share intimate photos and inappropriate behavior during a car ride. There are also reports from other young staff members about waking up in Swalwell’s hotel room with no memory of how they got there.

After the shocking revelations were made public, many Democratic politicians withdrew their support for Swalwell’s campaign, urging him to step aside. The California Democratic Party leader expressed deep concern, emphasizing that the experiences of survivors should be taken seriously. There was a collective call for all candidates to reflect on their positions in light of the allegations.

Pelosi highlighted the importance of respecting the young women who reported abuses. She suggested it’s best for Swalwell to step away from the gubernatorial race. Schiff also expressed his distress over the claims, indicating that Swalwell should immediately cease his campaign activities.

Matt Mahan, another candidate, stressed accountability among Democrats, emphasizing the need to take the allegations seriously. Rusty Hicks, chair of the California Democratic Party, reinforced the need to hear and believe survivors, stating there must be accountability for illegal conduct.

In response to the reports, the California Teachers Association announced they are suspending their support until they can discuss next steps. Sen. Ruben Gallego, a long-time associate of Swalwell, has also retracted his initial backing amidst these developments.

Gallego, who had supported Swalwell in the past, switched his stance after reviewing the credible reporting on the allegations, acknowledging that the accounts of the women must be treated with the respect they deserve. He admitted feeling upset and shocked by the details revealed in the reports.

Despite the serious nature of the accusations, Swalwell has categorically denied all charges, and neither he nor his attorney has provided a comment regarding the specific allegations reported by various media outlets, including additional claims from other women about misconduct.
