Democrats and Never Trump after the New York Court of Appeals lowered the bail former President Donald Trump must pay from $464 million to $175 million to appeal his civil fraud case. The Republicans settled the matter through negotiations. Two-tier judicial system.
Former New York State Assistant Attorney General Tristan Snell told MSNBC on Monday:
This is a different process for this person. We decided to give him a private court of justice. He has a private plane. He has a private club and he lives there. Apparently he basically organized a private militia to take over the Capitol. Now he has his own judicial system. This is a complete farce. That wouldn’t happen to anyone else. If it were someone else, it would be something like, “Sorry, we lost.” For him? He sets his own rules.
Another MSNBC talking head, former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki, argued:
Of course, this country has a two-tiered judicial system. …But it certainly won’t be the gradual thing that Donald Trump is describing. And he is implying that he is being treated worse. In fact, the opposite is true.
.@jrpsaki: “Trump is not a victim of this country’s two-tiered justice system. He has benefited from it. A system for the powerful, wealthy, and well-connected like Donald Trump. There are systems for other people as well.” pic.twitter.com/FFpmLXGNB7

That talking point was amplified by Democratic social media “influencers.”

Jen Psaki is on point again about Trump. “Trump is a beneficiary, not a victim, of this country’s dual justice system. There is one system for the powerful, wealthy, and well-connected like Trump.” Boom. Trump benefited. pic.twitter.com/YB6SI20oNi

Other Democrats and Never Trumpers alike complained that Trump was receiving “special treatment.”
A former NBC executive posted to X: “Mr. Trump gets special treatment again. A New York court rules that Mr. Trump can post a smaller bail of $175 million in a civil fraud case.”

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele posted on X:
Once again, @realDonaldTrump is getting special treatment in his own private justice system. The New York Court of Appeals reduced Trump’s bail from $454 million to $175 and gave him 10 days to receive the funds, giving him time to reduce the amount. Decided. This makes no sense at all.

Meanwhile, Trump faces five lawsuits filed by Democrats seeking bankruptcy and jail time.
Apart from the New York civil fraud case filed against him by Democratic Attorney General Letitia James, he faces charges in Georgia related to allegations of hush money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, allegations of election interference, and a Democratic He faces charges from District Attorney Alvin Bragg. A special federal prosecutor is investigating him on suspicion of election interference and mishandling of classified documents.
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Sunday. What do you say to voters who say, “She looks like someone the government is going after, and she doesn’t seem like she’s being treated equally before the law.”
She replied that no president had ever been charged with such a crime before, before claiming it was her doing.
.@RealDonaldTrump: “I highly respect the Appellate Division’s decision and intend to promptly post $175 million in cash or surety bond, if necessary, within 10 days.” https://t.co/8zB02YeFuc

“Has any president, Republican or Democratic, ever been the subject of this level of criminal charges, indictments, and investigations?” she said, then added: “This is not about parties. This is not about politics. This is about corruption and crime.”
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), a prominent ally of President Trump, said the Biden administration wants to see him die in prison and his family go bankrupt, targeting the former president. He condemned these efforts.
The Biden administration wants Trump to die in prison and wants to bankrupt his family. This is the greatest attack on democracy we have ever seen. If you’re too timid to say it out loud, you’re not ready for his moment in American politics.
