Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday indicated he intends to vote in his favour of coagulation to allow Senate Republicans to only need a simple majority until September to enact a self-passed continuous resolution to fund the federal government.
If Democrats don't move to abandon coagulation, Senate Republicans will need the help of multiple Democrats to pass the bill. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced his opposition to the law. This means that eight Senate Democrats will need to join with Republicans to avoid closure.

Less than 24 hours later, Schumer appears to be boosting the threat of closure from Senate Democrats. Democrats are working on a plan to give Republicans the necessary votes to move the bill forward in exchange for a vote on their own amendments, according to an ABC News report.
Some Democrats have smoked to Schumer about this.
