Democrats Funded by Soros Participate in Walkout Against Trump During State of the Union

Several Democratic lawmakers are planning to skip President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address this Tuesday, instead opting to join a rally protesting the event. Interestingly, some of these lawmakers have previously received funding from connections to left-wing billionaire George Soros.

At least twelve House and Senate Democrats have committed to this protest rally, which is being organized by groups like MoveOn Civic Action and Media’s Touch. These organizations have a track record of financial backing from Soros’s network. It’s notable that many participating legislators have accepted contributions from the Soros family or affiliated entities.

For instance, MoveOn.org Civic Action secured over $3 million in grants from Soros’s Open Society Foundations (OSF) between 2016 and 2024. Back in 2003, Soros personally donated $2.5 million to MoveOn. The OSF isn’t just backing MoveOn; in 2023, it also awarded a $3 million grant to the Indivisible Project to boost social welfare initiatives. Notably, responses from OSF, Indivisible, and MoveOn to inquiries about this situation have not been forthcoming.

Among the Democrats joining the rally are Senators Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Chris Murphy of Connecticut, and Tina Smith of Minnesota. Other participants include congressional representatives like Veronica Escobar and Pramila Jayapal, all of whom have benefited from Soros-related funds at some point. Interestingly, none of their offices responded to requests for commentary.

Senator Markey, for instance, has received varying contributions from Indivisible Action and MoveOn Political Action, amounting to significant sums. Similarly, Senator Merkley has seen donations from these same groups. Meanwhile, Senator Murphy has amassed donations totaling over $40,000 from MoveOn and contributions ranging around $32,000 from various Soros family members.

FEC data reveals that contributions to various Democratic campaigns from the Soros network have been substantial. For Texas Democratic representatives like Escobar and others, MoveOn support has also been significant, with figures hitting the tens of thousands over recent years.

In summary, the connections between these Democratic lawmakers and Soros’s financial support have prompted some discussions regarding the motivations and implications of their boycott of Trump’s upcoming address. I guess we’ll see how it all unfolds.
