Democrats hold major 2024 advantage as House Republicans face further chaos, division

Democrats continue to hold a significant financial advantage in the race for control of the House, even as the narrow Republican majority in the House faces further turmoil from intraparty divisions.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the organization tasked with securing a Democratic majority, announced Thursday that it had raised $45.4 million in the first three months of 2024, with $21.4 million of that raised in March alone. . Both amounts marked new cycle records for the group.

These numbers outpace the DCCC’s Republican counterpart, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which announced last week that it raised $33.4 million in the first quarter and $16.2 million in March, also a cycle record. It is.

So far in the 2024 election cycle, the DCCC has raised $166.7 million and the NRCC has raised $124.7 million, a whopping $42 million difference. This advantage is also reflected in the cash reserves held by both groups just over six months after Election Day. DCCC holds $71.1 million compared to NRCC’s $55.9 million.

“The public knows that there has been nothing but chaos and dysfunction since the days of the House Republican majority,” DCCC Chairwoman Susan DelBene said in a statement. “That’s why supporters from across the country are making sure the DCCC has the resources and momentum it needs to take back the House, make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker, and get back to work serving working families. ”

But the silver lining for Republicans is that the NRCC’s current cash deficit is smaller than it was at the same point in the 2022 and 2020 election cycles. As of March 2022, the DCCC had $18.5 million more in cash than the NRCC, but Republicans gained nine seats in November of the same year. In 2020, the difference was a whopping $31.9 million, but Republicans still won 13 seats.

NRCC Spokesperson Will Reinert told Fox News: “House Republicans remain in a strong position to extend their majority. Meanwhile, extreme House Democrats are pushing back against the dangerous open border, anti-crime, and anti-crime policies that would have doomed their majority in the first place. “We continue to support pro-inflationary policies.” Digital when asked about the funding gap.

The snapshot of Democrats’ economic dominance came as House Republicans continue their fight over a controversial foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan that passed Saturday. The fight has led some Republicans to fight to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.

”[R]Rather than spend resources securing our southern border and combating the infiltration of 11 million illegal invaders, despite repeated promises, under the direction of the Speaker, we first secured the border, the U.S. House of Representatives. Without it, no additional funds will flow to Ukraine. is sending another $61 billion to draw America further into an endless and aimless war in Ukraine,” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) said in a statement.

It’s unclear how tensions among House Republicans are impacting the party’s fundraising in the middle of an election year, but one thing is certain: Kevin, the fundraising titan who was removed from his post last fall, This is due to the absence of former House Speaker McCarthy.
