Campaign Suspension for Maine Senate Candidate Amid Allegations

This week has gone from bad to worse for Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate for the Senate in Maine. He’s suspended his campaign following serious rape allegations that were reported in an exclusive by The Washington Post.

On a recent show, Blaze TV host Stu Bruguiere shared news of these developments with co-host Dave Landau, stating, “A new story has come out about him.” He went on to read the headline from the Washington Post, which claims, “Graham Platner’s ex-girlfriend says he removed condom without consent during sex.”

The ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Fifield, who previously accused Platner in a New York Times article, alleges that during a relationship from 2013 to 2015, she explicitly told him to wear a condom as she was not on birth control, but he disregarded her requests.

According to her interview with the Washington Post, “He would do it in a dirty way,” highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.

Dave commented on the situation, finding it particularly compelling. He noted, “Democrats lost people because they basically called men Nazi rapists,” which, in turn, complicates their strategy as they now try to run elections involving an individual facing such serious allegations.

Stu added his thoughts on this double standard, saying, “People wanted someone from outside the political elite, someone to speak up.” He remarked, “But now they’ve got a candidate wrapped up in these sorts of controversies.”

Following Platner’s campaign suspension, the unfolding of these scandals puts a spotlight on the difficulties facing Democrats in the high-stakes race for the Maine Senate seat.
